Easily the best mechanics I've ever been to! Peter and Fran are great to deal with and they always make sure you understand before going ahead with repairs. They're priced fairly and honestly which I appreciate as a student.

Victoria Transmission & Auto Care continues to impress. They pass up the chance to make a quick buck and take the time to find the best solutions to my automotive problems. They explain what needs to be done and why … and they'll tell you what doesn’t need to be fixed right away. They really are like having a friend or relative in the car repair business!

I'm very pleased with Peter and his team. Clear communication, fair prices, and positive vibes overall. I will be using this garage for my future auto repair and servicing needs.

I had a very big job done here. The mechanics are experts and Gary was very professional and informative. I highly recommended, especially if you have a Subaru.

On the recommendation of a relative who knows an employee there, I brought my car into Victoria Transmission & Auto Care for a diagnostic test regarding an issue the car forums tell me is a minor glitch in programming that happens often and is probably not a problem at all. I just wanted it checked for safety reasons. After a full day of having my car, Fran at Victoria Transmission calls to tell me nothing at all about the issue I brought my car in for, but instead to question how I have maintained my car and tell me that there is work needing to be done - some of it urgent for safety reasons - to the tune of $6500. I was very surprised to hear this as I do maintain my car - this was just the first time using this shop (all my previous work was done at the dealership). I asked for an email outlining the work that needs to be done and cost, and received a written estimate for roughly $3400 (about have the price of the verbal estimate). When my relative called in to question the estimate because we were shocked by it, I was given a 2nd written estimate for approximately $1000 (again, quite the difference). I decided to pay for the oil change and diagnostic testing (even though my original issues were never responded to) and leave. The cost was outrageous in my opinion, at $263.48. When I got home, I noticed I was charged for a $11.50 for a light bulb replacement that was definitely not needed or ever mentioned (and I still don't know what light bulb they are talking about). The diagnosis charge was $115 and is in my opinion, completely unfair. I took it for a 2nd opinion, at Budget Brake & Muffler and paid, in total, $138.71 for the work that met my needs. They did not charge me anything for diagnosis. Nothing at all was deemed "urgent" or "unsafe" about the state of my car.

I would like to add that as a person who literally knows nothing about cars, (but follows regularly scheduled maintenance), and having a "higher end" car (that I purchased used and at a great deal!) I have often been the target of auto shops/mechanics looking to make a quick buck. I sincerely believe this is what happened in this situation. If you have any uncertain feelings, always trust your gut and get a 2nd opinion. Lastly, it bothers me that as a woman they treated me in this way, but when a man called in, the cost was significantly reduced.

Update: As per the response below, the owner did personally call to discuss my situation and to offer to show me all of the repairs that needed work. I appreciate the offer and gesture, but this would not serve a purpose because they could show me anything and I wouldn't know how to evaluate it myself. My trust was broken when their employee insinuated I was not maintaining my car, and indicated that my battery was 84 months old (it was purchased new and installed at the dealership 17 months ago), and my car has now been repaired to my satisfaction at another shop. I think the owner has over-simplified the situation in his response. Yes, it's 2018, but your industry still has a long way to go to change the stigma associated with taking advantage of customers. The work on this is not done, and my experience with Victoria Transmission does not shift my perspective in the right direction. Apologies in the end are appreciated and accepted!
